Colts/Kwik Cricket Section

The Cricket Club has a thriving junior section which runs Kwik Cricket sessions on Friday evenings during the summer. The sessions run from 6 – 7 pm and are open to all age groups from school year 2 for both boys and girls, subject to numbers and available coaching staff.

For those older boys in school years 6 and above who are interested, we continue from 7 – 8pm with more formal colts cricket coaching with proper equipment and practice nets. We also run indoor net sessions on Sunday afternoons which are from 1.15 - 3.15 pm starting in March.

For the older boys there is the opportunity to play in friendly matches against other colts teams, again subject to numbers and available parental help, and as the boys mature the intention is to integrate them into the main club 2nd eleven on a Saturday.

Although there is a nominal Club membership fee the Kwik Cricket is run entirely by unpaid parent volunteers.  There must be at least two adults for each age group, one of whom should ideally have completed the Surrey CCC basic introduction to coaching course. This is a short Saturday afternoon introductory course for which the Cricket Club pays, for all parents or aspiring coaches of either sex and any age and is very simple but effective for managing groups of 10 – 20 kids. No prior knowledge of cricket is required or assumed ! The next course will be held on Saturday 18 April 2009 from 12-4pm at Hazlewood School, Oxted.

The pavilion and bar are open on a Friday evening during the summer to encourage parents/carers to come down and help out and add to the social atmosphere.

We are desperately in need of new coaches and helpers for 2012 so for more information please contact Bob Middlemiss on 01737 843252 – email
